Manholes may be dangerous if the cover is damaged or removed.

In 2011 we took on responsibility for private sewers, which means we're now responsible for 67,000 miles of sewers. However, not every cover is our responsibility.

Damaged or missing covers

If you spot a broken or open manhole cover you should cordon it off and contact us.

We'll visit the site to make the area safe and make sure any defective covers we're responsible for are repaired or replaced.

It can be difficult to identify whether a cover is for your drain or our sewer but we should be able to identify whose responsibility it is from our plans and records.
